Robert Adair Jewellers in Ballymena offer many beautiful wedding rings. Your wedding ring is something to wear and treasure for the rest of your life and Robert Adair Jewellers are happy to ensure that you make the perfect choice.

The choice of metal for the bride’s wedding band is usually dictated by her engagement ring. The groom’s ring will often follow suit. Popular choices include:

  • BN_Group 8A yellow gold wedding ring is the traditional choice. 24ct is the purest form of gold but also the softest variety so is not generally recommended for wedding bands.  Our most popular choice for a gold band is18ct which gives a nice compromise between purity and durability.
  • White gold will complement any silver or platinum jewellery you may have already, and is currently a very popular choice. Most of our white gold bands have a high palladium content which means that even after substantial wear and tear the ring will still maintain its nice bright and white colour.
  • A platinum wedding ring is another popular choice.  A naturally white metal platinum is extremely durable and is the ideal metal to securely hold diamonds and precious gemstones.

Everybody’s lifestyle is different and its important to think about an average week and the wear and tear that the wedding ring will suffer. It’s worth remembering that smaller, thinner wedding bands are more susceptible to damage whilst larger, sturdier ones will withstand a lot of what life can throw at them. Also rings with fancy engraving and satin finishes etc will suffer more than a plain polished band which can be easily re-polished and refurbished as necessary. We recommend:

  • BN_Group 12If you are a very active person who intends to always wear their wedding ring, then we suggest a slightly heavier band with a rounded profile both inside and out.
  • Mens wedding rings are typically between 5mm and 8mm wide, with 6mm and 7mm band widths proving the most popular.  A common misconception is that a larger hand requires a broader wedding ring. Sometimes a broader ring can emphasises the “largness” of a hand, drawing attention to it, while a narrower width say 5-6mm looks far better.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to choose your rings. Rings can be ordered and in stock within two weeks it is obviously much better not to be rushed and to take the necessary time to pick a lovely ring that you are going to cherish and wear every day for many years to come.  We find that about two to three months prior to the big day is about right for choosing the rings.

We are located at Diamond House, 47-51 Mill Street, Ballymena and have some beautiful pieces for your to browse and try on.

Style of Engagement Ring

Styles of rings are many and varied with a range of rings continually expanding as modern trends develop.  Robert Adairs take great care in choosing their rings to ensure that they can offer each customer the style of ring they want, at a price they can afford.

Platinum is very much the metal of choice at the moment, closely followed by white gold, and while most of the ladies have their hearts set on all diamonds, gemstone rings with emerald ruby and sapphire are still requested.  When it comes to a simple single diamond rings we always let the diamond do the talking only using diamonds which are cut to perfection to give the most fire and scintillation.  All qualities are available to suit every budget.  At the moment there is a trend towards a style of ring sometimes know as the halo setting.  This setting comprises a centre diamond, in any shape of cut, which is bordered by a separate row of micro set diamonds .  This setting emphasises the size of the main diamond and gives a fantastic effect of fire and sparkle, which is what a diamond should be all about.  Many settings now combine micro set diamonds in the shoulders and sides of the ring giving a lovely display and leading the eye
up to the main stones in the ring.  All of Robert Adair Jewellers Ballymena engagement rings can be supplied with matching plain or diamond set wedding rings and are available in gold, white gold, platinum and palladium.

The price of Platinum and Gold has sky rocketed and is a cause for concern for both manufactures and retailers.

Manufacturing items such as diamond engagement rings and wedding bands has become more expensive.

Could Palladium be the new alternative?

Palladium imageAt Robert Adair Jewellers Ballymena we have found a gradual rise in the popularity of this precious metal with more and more of our customers seeking an affordable price range.

Palladium is 95% pure and is made up Ruthenium and Iridium, which are also platinum group metals.

Palladium is a Platinum group metal and comes with many advantages.

Rings

For example:

    • It does not tarnish or lose whiteness when worn.
    • Palladium does not need to be rhodium plated like white gold
    • Palladium is harder wearing.
    • As it is a platinum group metal it makes the jewellery item hypo-allergenic
      with negligible nickel content
    • The colour of palladium is slightly darker than platinum making any set diamonds look more revealing.
    • Palladium is in the same price bracket as white gold but due to the price of gold rising and that Palladium is a less dense metal than gold it is less expensive.

Interesting facts –

Palladium is actually rarer than Gold and may hold a higher value in the future, especially if it becomes sought after over Gold due to trends in the buying market.

From January 2010 Palladium has been officially recognised as a precious metal. If a Palladium design weighs more than 1 gram it is now a legal requirement for it to be hallmarked.

The symbol for Palladium is the Pallas Athene, the Greek Goddess of War, Wisdom and Crafts, after whom it was named. The mark was designed for use as part of the Palladium hallmark as shown below.

Like 9ct and 18ct gold there are two qualities of palladium available palladium 500 and palladium 950.  The 950 quality is almost pure palladium while the 500 standard comprises 50% palladium.

Robert Adair Jewellers stock a full range of palladium rings in both 500 and 950 qualities, and would be more than happy to show you the range at their Ballymena premises on Mill Street.  If you have questions or would like more information on Palladium contact Stuart Adair on  028 25656896 or email info@robertadairjewellers.com.
